Clear aligners are hugely popular among teens and adults who prefer clear braces over traditional metal braces. Invisalign is the most common brand of clear aligner and it is preferred over traditional metal braces for a number of reasons. Invisalign aligners are clear retainers, which make them blend into the patient's teeth.

Since they are removable, flossing is much easier which can lead to better oral hygiene and oral health. Even though they may look better than traditional metal braces, Invisalign is not the right treatment plan for many patients looking for a beautiful smile. Patients with an underbite, crossbite and other major issues need the assistance metal or ceramic brackets to pull them into place.

How to Know Whether You Are the Right Candidate for Invisalign

Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment option for minor adjustments and shifts and can be very effective teeth straightening for patients without severe cases.

What Invisalign Can’t Do
Invisalign is unfortunately very limited and not the right option for many patients. It is also not useful for correcting issues like:

Severely rotated teeth

Severely tipped teeth: Teeth that are "tipped" more than 45 degrees

Large gaps between teeth: If you have gaps more than 6 mm between your teeth, invisalign braces are ineffective.

Other issues include severe deep overbite, skeletally-based malocclusion, open bites and other cases where the extraction of teeth is required.
